Tungnath Temple: Tungnath Temple is situated on a high mountain in Rudraprayag district of Garhwal, Uttarakhand. It is said to be the highest temple of Shiva which is the highest Shiva temple in the entire world. The height of Tungnath temple is approximately 3640 meters high, this temple is considered to be the tallest among the five Kedar temples of Shiva. It is told in the ancient story that after the Mahabharata, when Sage Vyas told the Pandavas that they were guilty of killing their own brothers in the war and their sins would be atoned for only when Lord Shiva forgave them, then the Pandavas went to Himalayas. They started searching for Lord Shiva and Shiva kept scolding them because they were guilty.

This temple is believed to be 1,000 years old and Lord Shiva is worshiped here as one of the Panch Kedars. It is believed that this temple was built by the Pandavas to please Lord Shiva. The temple is located 3 kilometers away from Chopta. It is said that Parvati ji had performed penance here to please Lord Shiva before marriage.

When to visit Tunganath Temple: Tungnath temple can be visited anytime from May to November. Due to snowfall after November, log yahan aana cum karte hain, but those who like to climb and enjoy snow clad mountains should visit in January and February.

If you do Tungnath along with Chardham, it will take you at least 10 to 11 days because there is a long trek of 4 to 5 km to Tungnath temple, the distance of which takes approximately 5 to 6 hours to cover.
